San Blas Island, Panama
A picture of San Blas Huts

The San Blas Islands are located off the coast of Panama in Central America. There are over 350 islands and islets. Only 60 of those are inhabited. Living on these islands are the Kuna Indians. The Kuna are one of the few pure races existing in the world. They continue to live very simply, conserving their heritage and land. More than 20,000 Kuna live on these islands in small palm tree leaf huts.

I've wanted to visit San Blas since I was a kid when my sister and I would spend every summer in Panama. We would hear stories from our parents and others about how beautiful the islands are. (I'm not quite sure why they never took us.) To get there you have to take a plane and a boat. But I've been told that once you're there it's paradise. The Kuna make many things that can be purchased and the food is definitely authentic Panamanian. This is one place I can't wait to get to!
