The first memory that comes to mind when I think about Lucca is that of a man on a red bicycle riding on the wall that surrounds the city. When our tour guide described the wall in the car on the way to Lucca, I never imagined how massive it would be. In some places it is at least eight feet wide and twenty feet tall! It surrounds the entire city, and provides a great place to take a walk and see Lucca from above. Lucca is also a great place to sample and purchase wine. The city itself is said to have be a producer of wine before Roman and even Etruscan times! When in Lucca, I would suggest finding a local Enoteca (or wine shop) to purchase their world famous Sangiovese and Chianti. |
