VOLPAIA
VOLPAIA
This is a picture of a wine cellar in Volpaia. The picture was taken by my father in June 2004.

Of all the towns we visited in Italy, Volpaia best featured the Tuscan countryside. This 16th century farm estate was settled in a valley of the Tuscan hills. It was tiny, quaint, and very close to nature.

When visiting Volpaia, all focus lies on the wine that is produced from the rolling vineyards that surround the town. The town itself makes its own blended wine, and the natives are happy to schedule tours of the winery and wine cellars. The town also provides wine tastings of their locally produced wine. And remember, the locals don't skimp on the wine at these tastings, so If you're a light wieght like myself, eat some of the goodies that are provided while you drink. Also be sure to stop in the one and only local restaurant for a rustic local cuisine and of course, more local wine!
