A french opera by Georges Bizet, based on the story "Carmen" by prosper Merimee. Premiered March 3, 1875 in Paris. It was a failure at first because of it scandalism and immorality. But now, it is one of the most popular operas. 
Carmen is a beautiful gypsy with a hot temper. She spreads her love around like peanut butter and causes many men to fall. She seduces Corporal Don Jose and leads him to go against his superior officer. He then joins Carmen`s band of smugglers and is driven mad when she dumps him for the bullfighter Escamillo. |
