Two cavaliers have faith in their betrothed. But, an old bachelor makes fun of them and gets them to test the ladies. They pretend to go away with their regiment and in a couple of days they return disguised as officers of another regiment. They pay the ladies lots of attention and seduce them into bed. The old bachelor persuades them to keep up the disguise and fake despair. Despina, the ladies attendant agrees to help the cavaliers. The boys then pretend to poison themselves in front of the ladies and the ladies are distraught. Despina feels guilty and she tells the ladies of the plot. The ladies then play a trick on the boys and they accept the distraught men as suitors and even sign a marriage contract (fake, of course). Once all has been revealed, the ladies fool the boys into thinkibg that they knew of the trick all along and laugh over their cleverness to fool the boys. The boys are so ashamed for doubting their betrothed and ask for forgiveness.
